As the former manor house of Ware, the oldest part of the building is thought to date to the late 13th or early 14th century – it was often in Royal ownership and then, in 1674, it was acquired by Christ's Hospital and used as a school throughout the 18th century.
Place House Hall has been lovingly modernised over the years and is now a licenced wedding and community venue. It is regularly hired for club and society meetings, exhibitions, seminars, training days, workshops, fitness classes, craft fairs, family gatherings, small weddings and other social events. The Hall has a pretty medieval-style community garden.

Place House Hall is owned and managed by the Hertfordshire Building Preservation Trust (registered charity 232686) and maintained through hire fees and fundraising

Dating from around 1300, Place House Hall is a truly unique and historic setting for your wedding ceremony. A Grade 1-listed timber framed medieval hall, with Tudor wooden screen and pretty courtyard garden, Place House is a memorable venue for small weddings of up to 50 people. It's also a blank canvas for you to personalise with flowers or decorations of your choice, either doing it yourselves or using our trusted suppliers. Our inhouse wedding co-ordinator will assist you in creating a truly special day, from the booking process to welcoming your guests and everything in between.
Your marriage takes place in the atmospheric surroundings of the hall as you make your vows and sign the register. The ceremony can be made more personal with your own selected readings and choice of music, either a favourite playlist or live musician. Our elegant panelled Parlour serves as a space to gather your thoughts and chat to the registrar before the ceremony.
Following the ceremony you can have drinks in our pretty garden and capture your memories with photographs. You are also welcome to stay on and host your reception in the hall, or we can recommend excellent local pubs and restaurants to move on to for your celebration.

Our wedding co-ordinator will guide you in the booking process. Once we have discussed your day and checked availability, we will complete the simple booking form with you.
CostYou can either hire the hall hourly for a ceremony at the rate of £160/hour (minimum two hours for the ceremony and to include any set up time the day before) or if you would like the hall for the whole day 9am - 10pm (9pm on a Sunday) the cost of hiring Place House Hall is £850.
For 2027 rates please contact us for details
Please note that couples must book their registrar separately and there is an additional fee due to the registrars for this.
Flowers & Decorations You are welcome to decorate the hall and provide flowers for your ceremony, and you can discuss this with us when booking.
Photography The historic interior of our ancient hall is a wonderful setting for your photographs as is the garden with its pergola and medieval style planting.
Confetti Real flower petals (fresh or dried) only please as we wish to keep our garden litter free and real petals smell good too!
Music Make your ceremony even more personal with your own music choices, which will guided by the registrar during booking. We can provide a blue tooth speaker for you to use, and we recommend you appoint a guest to take responsibility for this on the day. We are also very happy for live (unamplified) musicians to play and this should be discussed when booking to ensure they can be accommodated.
Animals Pets belonging to the couple and assistance dogs are welcome to join you on your special day.
Reception Some couples wish to make the most of the surroundings by staying at the hall for the reception. This might be a drinks reception, an afternoon tea, a buffet or a sit down meal (please note we only have a very small kitchen!). Although we are not able to provide facilities for full receptions (DJs, amplified music etc) a small gathering of friends and family can be very special.

What a nice place in the middle of bustling Ware. A quiet haven tucked away off a side lane. Very good function room for hire

I have been to Place House Hall for the teas several times over the last few years and it never disappoints. This medieval meeting hall has a special atmosphere and together with a very interesting and long history makes for a lovely afternoon outing.
The cream teas are scrumptious, very reasonably priced and all home made and you can even have a glass of Prosecco too.

Amazing building hidden in the centre of Ware with such a long and rich history. Not large interior but ideal for small gatherings. Worth a visit.

We recently got married in Place House Hall. Ann and her team were a pleasure to work with. Her quick, calm and efficient communication was always generous, clear and informative. The hall looked stunning and our day went very smoothly. We had fizz served in the garden and hall after the ceremony. It is a charming, relaxed and intimate place.

We recently had our wedding at Place House Hall and couldn’t have been happier with how the day went. The hall is so beautiful and the wedding coordinator ensured the day ran really smoothly. Would definitely recommend for small or micro weddings.
